For this on-figure shoot and the change of seasons upon us, I headed on location to the countryside to capture a sense of beauty, freedom and spirit inspired by this season’s Fall trends and high-fashion including a 'days of yore', western-style look; in this case beginning with such particulars as fringe.
I had a talented team to work with which can be all the more exciting as the factors of styling, hair and makeup fall into place to create a beautiful photo. The Art Director/Stylist beautifully paired the fine lines of the high collar dress to accentuate the geometric shape of the earrings. I found that with so many lovely details to focus on, it was a good opportunity to get close-up and frame more tightly to capture certain elements such as the textures of the jewelry and dress.
Particularly striking were the dramatic, smoky eyes with subtle lips, the result of finely done make-up. This contrast of dark colors combined with a soft expression from the model worked well with a clean lighting to create a soothing, romantic-like impression. I also chose to use a shallow depth of field to blur the background without losing a sense of the green country feel. Shooting outdoors provided a genuine, breezy sensibility to the tousled, natural hair. For post-production, the choice was to slightly desaturate the image for a more dreamy mood.
While this year’s contemporary, Fall fashion harkens back to the days of old, stirring us to head out into the open air, this idea of yesteryear brings my mind back to the strong, independent, pioneer woman of the past who lives on in the spirit of the present.
